# How to connect KeyNest

This guide shows you how to connect KeyNest to Guestway with your KeyNest login, so you can manage key collection codes in Guestway.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Before you start**

* You have the **Super admin** role, or a role with access to integrations.
* You have the login of your KeyNest account.
* KeyNest is a key exchange service: guests collect and drop off a physical key with a code, at a KeyNest location. Guestway shows each KeyNest key as a smart lock.
  {% endhint %}

## Connect the account

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the integrations

Go to **Settings** → **Organization** → **Integrations** and click **Create**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose KeyNest

Under **Smart Locks**, click **KeyNest**. In **Integration name**, keep the suggested name or enter your own.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set the time zone

In **Timezone**, choose the time zone of your KeyNest locations, for example Europe/Brussels. It does not matter which time zone you are in.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The start and end of each collection code use this time zone. Check it before guests arrive. You can change it later in **Integration Configuration**.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Sign in with KeyNest

Click **Secure Login via OAuth2**, then **Authenticate**. Sign in with your KeyNest account, and allow Guestway to manage your keys.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Finish the connection

Back in Guestway, click **Finish**. Guestway imports your KeyNest keys.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Link the keys

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Choose the keys to use

Open the integration and its smart lock tab. Tick **Subscribed** for each key you want to manage in Guestway. See [How to choose which listings and devices sync](/integrations/integrations/how-to-choose-which-listings-and-devices-sync.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Link each key to its listing

In [Smart locks](/reservations-and-operations/smart-locks.md), open the key and link it to its listing or complex.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>Why can I not enter my own PIN code?</summary>

KeyNest makes the collection code. When you create an access code, Guestway shows *KeyNest generates a pin code for you.*

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why can I not disable a code?</summary>

KeyNest codes have no on and off state. If a booking is cancelled or you need to end access early, change the end of the code, or delete the code.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is there no Open Door button?</summary>

KeyNest is a key exchange, not a lock on the door. Guestway cannot open it remotely.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.guestway.io/integrations/smart-locks/keynest.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
