# KeyNest

Connect KeyNest to manage physical key pickup and drop-off codes for properties that use staffed key exchange points instead of an electronic lock.

### How does the integration work

Instead of an electronic lock on the door, your property's keys live at a nearby staffed pickup point or a KeyNest locker. Guestway models KeyNest as a smart lock so you can manage it from the same access screens you already use, but in reality it's a physical key exchange: guests collect a real key using a code, and drop it back the same way at the end of their stay.

### **How to connect KeyNest**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### **Go to organization settings**

In your Guestway dashboard, open the `Settings` for the organization you want to connect.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Open the integrations tab**

Click the `Integrations` tab to manage your available connections.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Add new integration**

Click on `Create` and choose **KeyNest** from the list of supported integrations.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Set your timezone**

You need to configure in which timezone you KeyNest is located. It doesn't matter in which timezone you are currently in; the only timezone we need is the one in which your KeyNest is located.

{% hint style="warning" %}
This keeps pickup windows accurate, so double check it's correct before going live!
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Authenticate with OAuth**

You'll be guided through a secure authorization flow.

* Sign in with your KeyNest account via the pop-up window.
* Authorize Guestway to connect and manage your keys.
 {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Sync and assign keys**

Once authenticated, Guestway pulls in your KeyNest key locations automatically. Assign each one to the appropriate listing.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **That's it!**

Your KeyNest integration is now connected. Guest collection codes, drop-off codes, and pickup activity will sync automatically as part of your Guestway access management workflow.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Good to know

**Codes can't be paused or switched off.**

Once a code is created, there's no instant on/off toggle. this is a KeyNest limitation, not a Guestway one. If a booking is cancelled or you need to cut off access early, shorten the code's valid dates or delete it instead.

**No remote unlock.**

Since this is a physical key exchange rather than an electronic lock, there's no "open door" action from Guestway.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.guestway.io/integrations/smart-locks/keynest.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
