# How to connect Stripe for guest payments

This guide shows you how to connect Stripe, so Guestway can take damage waivers, security deposits and upsell payments from guests.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Before you start**

* You have the **Super admin** role.
* Your business details for Stripe, for example the legal name, the VAT number, the owners and a proof of ownership.
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Stripe must verify your identity before the account can take payments. This can take time, so connect Stripe well before you want to start with damage waivers or paid extras.
{% endhint %}

## Create or connect your Stripe account

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the billing settings

Go to **Settings** → **Organization** → **Billing** and click **Connect**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Create a new Stripe account

Click **Create a new Stripe account**. Guestway works with its own connected Stripe account, so a new organization always creates a new one, also when you already use Stripe elsewhere.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter the country

Select the **Country**. In **Contact email (optional)**, enter where Stripe sends its emails. Click **Continue**, then **Open Stripe**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Finish verification

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Complete the onboarding on Stripe

On the Stripe page, enter your business details. If you already have a Stripe account, Stripe can reuse its verified details, so you fill in much less.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the status

Stripe sends you back to Guestway. Open the account on the **Billing** page. When it shows **Active**, it is ready.

If it shows that Stripe is reviewing your account, wait for Stripe. If the setup is not complete, click **Complete Stripe setup**. If a change on Stripe does not show yet, click **Refresh account status**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Make it the default

On the active account, click **Mark as default**, then **Confirm**. The account gets the badge **Default** with a star.

Damage waivers and security deposits work only when an active account is the default of the organization.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.guestway.io/guestway_onboarding/how-to-connect-stripe-for-guest-payments.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
